Use & Care

This is an indoor Kitchen Compost Bin - use outdoors may affect longevity. Both the bin and filter can be washed in warm soapy water. Do not place in the dishwasher. We advise against placing hot food in the Compost Bin as the heat and condensation can affect longevity. Make sure the filter and the bin are both air dried before reassembly.

Store bin liners in a cool dry place away from heat and direct sunlight.

For the Vege Bar, simply fill up your sink with water, shake the Bar around under the surface, then go ahead and give your produce a good wash. We like to use our Vegetable Brush for this or you can rub the Bar directly onto your apples, celery and everything in between. Ensure you rinse everything thoroughly before storing or eating.

Is this Kitchen Compost Bin designed for my countertop?

Yes! We've designed our Compost Bin to be a beautiful addition to your kitchen countertop to remind you to save your scraps from landfill and to start a conversation with guests!

How do I compost my food scraps?

So you’ve collected your food scraps, what next? Simply empty your scraps directly into your home Compost Bin. If you're lucky enough to live in a council that collects organic food waste simply add your scraps to your green bin. If neither of these are possible we'd encourage you to check Sharewaste to find your nearest option and keep your scraps out of landfill!

What are the Bin Liners made from?

Our bin liners are made from a compostable resin named Mater-Bi produced by Novamont, an Italian research company dedicated to environmental alternatives to polyethylene-based plastics. Mater-Bi is an innovative family of bioplastics that uses substances obtained from plants, such as but not limited to, non-genetically modified corn starch, and biodegradable/compostable polymers obtained both from renewable raw materials and fossil raw materials. Novamont’s policy is to acquire and use exclusively natural, non-GM, raw materials (such as starch).

Do the Bin Liners break down into microplastics?

No, the liners are certified compostable and contain a variety of compostable polymers so they can safely be eaten by worms and microorganisms, leaving no toxic residues or microplastics behind.

Will the bin liner break down in a home compost and can I put them in my worm farm?

Yes, in an active compost environment, our liners will break down within a matter of weeks and at the same rate as your food scraps. Success of home composting depends on how rich your compost is and the conditions unique to your compost bin and your location, including outside temperatures, moisture levels and the number of active microorganisms. The bags break down at normal compost temperatures and don’t need to be heated to high temperatures to break down. Yes, these bin liners can be placed in a worm farm sporadically however, they are much better suited for the compost bin. If placing in a worm farm we recommend chopping the bags into little bit so it is easier for the worms to break down.

Stops the odours!

Love the compost bin as it stops the odours and has good capacity. The lid is a little tight which makes lifting it a challenge when one hand is full of compostable scraps but that's probably just my ineptitude.

Sexiest compost bin out there!!

Getting into composting in a small apartment was a little daunting, especially as most compost bins would have taken up all my counter top and required heaps of maintenance.

Not this bin… it’s compact in size, comes in stunning colours (which are true to image) and the charcoal filter means there is virtually no smell!

The only downside (and this may be my lack of knowledge), is that the bin tends to sweat when used with a liner, and as it’s only me and can take a week or so to fill up, it can get pretty messy by the time I take the contents down to the outside compost bin. In saying that, super easy to clean afterwards.

Been using a couple weeks and would recommend.

I wanted to get into composting but wanted a neat and tidy way to take my scraps down to the communal compost bin. These bags make it super easy. They are a little on the thin side, which I assume is because they’re compostable themselves but otherwise they’re great.

Would recommend.
