A very useful article about interface and web design

Questions for T-Mobile.

When you realize the niche market you are creating for might not have a need/want for what you are designing, how do you revise it or do you try to force it on them more to “make” them want it. Or do you not revise it at all and move on?

Do you see a shift from computers (laptops/desktops) to mobile devices for individuals as primary computing sources in the near future?

If “yes” to the question above, how do you plan on engaging the generation that is not as computer savvy who might be intimidated by a tiny mobile device? I know my mother would complain that she couldn’t type on and or see on such a small screen. The reason I ask is because I am designing an A.R. based fitness/nutrition program and I feel like people age 40-60 could be a big part of my market assuming they are not intimidated by the technology.

Goals and Outcomes- Good Form

1. Knowledge, skills and attitudes learned:

Attitude is the main focus here. This program will teach its user how to develop a work ethic for exercising and eating right through personalized motivation tools. Greater success in achieving fitness goals will be achieved through proper exercise techniques (skills) and knowledge of caloric and nutritional content of certain foods.

2. What is observable and measurable.

This one is easy. Weight and body fat /muscle content in the individuals participating. That is the true proof in the pudding.

3. Represent Discreet Units of Instruction:

Behavioral modification should include frequent, effective exercise paired with better eating. This will be motivated (if the idea is implemented by HMOs) by insurance discounts. Wouldn’t you be more likely to exercise if you were getting paid?

4.Clearly communicate expectations to learner. (See 3).

GOOD FORM Fitness and Nutrition App.

WHAT – The app will be a combined nutrition guide / meal planner with an AR calorie counter (scan barcode of products). It will keep track of your progress on whatever goals are set and update you on them frequently in a personalized way that motivates you. Additionally, the app will accompany exercise by formulating workout plans and critiquing form of exercise while synced with the machines and devices the user implements to get in shape (weights etc.)

WHO – This app will be designed for anyone who either wants to lose weight, improve nutritional intakes, maintain weight or gain muscle (weight). The only people who would have no vested interest in this app would be lazy-asses who are content sitting on their couch, rotting away with a bag of Cheetos and a big gut.

WHEN/HOW/WHERE – This app would be used when exercising out in public, whether that be while running at the park or using exercise machines at the gym. While NOT in the gym, it would function like Nike Plus, monitoring workout statistics through motion and user input. While AT the gym, the device the app is being run on would sync to the workout machine being used which would have sensors that determine through pressure points and a built in camera whether or not the the user is doing exercise repetitions correctly.

WHY – Ideally, this application could be sold to an insurance company or even the government. If sold to an insurance company, the data sent back would indicate whether a customer was meeting his or her set fitness goals and by meeting these goals, they would receive discounts on their insurance rates, helping keep costs of healthcare down for both the insurance industry and their customers while helping customers to lead more healthful, happy lives.

If sold to the government, the same ideas would apply except people would receive tax credits for achieving their fitness goals (poorer people who don’t pay taxes would simply get a check in the mail). By keeping people in shape, the government would reduce a lot of its own healthcare costs by preventing many expensive to treat conditions (type 2 diabetes, heart disease) assuming Obama’s healthcare reform is eventually passed.

ROMANOS APP Ideas

1. Keeping your form while exercising (this could incorporate AR)

2. Design tutorial database that incorporates text, audio and video to use as a “companion” while guiding you through how to use the various Adobe software programs (ironic given Adobe/Appel’s recent tiff) :-]

3. Learn how to play the guitar w/ AR that shows which fingers to put on strings for songs and what they sound should be when you strum.

Just thought everyone would appreciated the immense cheese.
