Application Screens
Service Goals
Through the series of steps, learning on tier-based process. When one level of ability is attained, another can be reached. The user is asked, and somewhat forced, to think in Spanish, seeing words and objects and making them become the Spanish word or phrase. Vocabulary will be shown to create a knowledge base of words. Grammar is an essential to learn and will be part of the tier-based app, certain forms and conjugations will be learned later on as they advance and comprehend more Spanish. Throughout the entire app, the user will be able to listen to native speaker’s speech, how words and sentences are supposed to sound and how they are supposed to be formed. There’s also a progress tracker that would determine the advancement of the user. They would advance as they improved in their knowledge and communicative skills, not when they felt like moving on.

Really thorough explorations!! it seems really close to a text book or a formula to combine to figure out a complex language. There seems to be a lot of common element in your method of explorations. I wonder how else you can teach someone language without them having to read off a screen. Is there an audio play in the one of the features? I like the last one where the person smiles and gives the impression “Espanol is the language i speak, do you want to speak my language of love” smilling faces are always encouraging.

It looks like you have really thought this app out. Considering what all of the things you have to think about to create an app like this. Teaching someone to speak spanish is not easy. But I think you have a nice refined design going on and it looks real. I think it’s important that you have incorporated pronunciation and video recordings to assist someone who is using this app, I think listening and practicing is the most useful way to learn, so I think you’re designing well for your objective.

Jonathan,
Your interface design is clean and consistent but I am trying to figure out what specifically sets this app apart from its kin?
I think that this app is missing is a reward system.
I am assuming this will be incorporated verbally with the flash demo, however, people love collecting things. Perhaps consider a digital calendar where users can mark progress as an option (Brain Age games for Nintendo DS are a great example of this).
Make me WANT to come back to this app!

I think the look and feel is really effective and well thought out. I am a little confused at where this objective would fit into the whole app. Meaning, I would have liked to see a menu screen or some text to let me know what exactly is being done here (red means bad? green means you got it?) I like that you have text, along with a playback with speaking so users can hear what they are trying to say. I also like that you’re incorporating different learning styles (fill in the blank, word selection & comparisons, listening & repeating, etc.) Great Job!

You’ve really put a lot of time into exploring all the teaching methods your app will use! The interface is working pretty well for me–simple and clean–but you may want to go back in and adjust the type a little. Some of it is small/low-contrast and I think that it’d be even better were it easier to read.
Otherwise, I’ll echo Nick–a reward system or progress tracker would make this app feel more rewarding. Maybe there could be a system that rates the users’ Spanish ability in a way that’s fun?
“You now know enough Spanish to…. make smalltalk at the bus station!”
