Microsoft Courier
So with all this hype of Apple’s iPad, Microsoft has been developing a similar device that’s going to be more ‘journal-like’. The link to the Engadget article is here. They have various demos of the product ‘working’ or what it will be like. The interface is multi-touch driven and is based around using a pen, basic premise to make it like a digital moleskin. It’s launch date is supposed to be this year sometime.
I think it’s quite interesting. Microsoft keeps trying to fight Apple’s consumer touch device. Also, watching the videos, Microsoft seems to be designing with designers or the typical Apple-cult followers with their new device. Check it out, quite neat.

This is interesting. I hadn’t seen this before, let alone heard anything about it. To me, it looks like an iPad that folds, which could be pretty cool. For me though, I am probably one of those obnoxious devoted Apple fans that tends to just side with their products, because let’s face it, they all have their perks.
But, one thing that I commend Microsoft for doing is making their tablet device have the ability to be written and drawn on. Don’t get me wrong, the iPad has amazing possibilities, especially with the future of print design, etc. However, It sounds like Microsoft wants their “Courier” to do it all. I like the idea of a digital sketchbook, which from the sound of this device, it seems that it could act as just that. And it will have a built in camera. Which is what I’m waiting to see the iPad do.
Apple is always on top of their game though. They’re amazing at creating innovative technology, and are good at being some of the first to do so, but there will always be other companies that come out doing something better. I have to say that this Courier thing seems to have a lot of good going for it. I would be curious to see some of these new things incorporated in the next generation iPad
